Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farms

This summer I was commissioned to paint a portrait of a wedding location to be given as a wedding gift.  These types of projects are a bit nerve-wracking since I must please three people, the client, the recipient and their new spouse.  Happy to say, the gift was well received and I had a great time painting this RI landmark.

Vintage Plank Wall Installation

It was a summer project that challenged both Joe and myself, from salvaging the vintage planks in a junkyard in Woonsocket, RI, to designing a 3 panel interlocking wall hanging, with pieces of all different lengths and widths.  Then there was the refinishing, glazing and preserving of the aged wood, with the fun part of making each one look like a part of an old salvaged sign.  All of the logos and words were hand painted by me, then distressed to match the vintage feel.  The initials of each child in the family were added as dimensional elements and even the clients had their initials carved into a plank.  The final part was learning to do wood burning...because I always wanted to try it.  The anchor and compass rose were both burned in designs, leaving my hand pretty cramped for a few days.  I don't think I will be revisiting that craft any time soon:-)

A commission such as this is a very collaborative one with the client.  It becomes full of family symbols & memories, things that are valued and things that are passed on to a new generation.  We were quite blessed to be entrusted with such an assignment and I hope to be given the opportunity to create a similar piece in the future.

Thank you for your interest!  I wish you much joy in these last few days of summer.
